Engineering & Project Management

Engineering & Project Management

On all projects we liaise with our clients to obtain their own specific requirements and collect the necessary P&ID’s and Isometrics, building engineered packs and solutions for you. All project engineering is regularly submitted to the client for review and approval prior to any personnel and equipment mobilization in order to limit downtime on a project attributed to engineering packs not being available post sign off. On larger projects we install a project manager to attend daily meetings, give updates, troubleshoot issues and offer comprehensive solutions to any issues encountered. This ensures a single point of contact for both the client and our personnel, providing a more streamlined experience to complete the project in a cost effective, safe, and timely manner.

Nitrogen Leak Test Services

Nitrogen Leak Test Services

Leak testing with nitrogen / helium (N2He) and N2 only (soapy bubble) is a core area within our business, We perform leak testing on everything from individual equipment components to complete oil and gas installations.

N2He leak testing is usually performed to ensure a leak-free start-up of systems and components that will handle flammable, explosive or other critical substances. Systems and components designed to operate in a vacuum are also often subjected to this type of testing. Our equipment can be utilized on both land and transferable to offshore locations. We adhere to all offshore certification and regulation.

Hot Oil Flushing

Hot Oil Flushing

We perform certification of cleanliness in hydraulic systems and lubricating oil systems with requirements for cleanliness. We have oil flushing units with capacities and properties that suit all pipe dimensions, oil types, and viscosities. Analysis and documentation is performed with a microscope or automatic particle counting for verification against ISO 4406 or NAS 1683, as well as water content.

We also offer cleaning of all types of oils. Either we can perform circulation and filtration at the customer's facility or on-site in refineries, shipyards, or offshore. We perform pressure testing of instruments, pipes, tanks, valves, and equipment in accordance with the latest industry standards.

Chemical Cleaning

Chemical Cleaning

We perform chemical cleaning of pipes, tanks, heat exchangers and process systems. We work actively with chemical suppliers and customers to remove deposits in a more cost effective, faster, and safer way. Our acquired experience is at the forefront of meeting increasingly stringent environmental requirements and pursues an active substitution policy.

Once a system contents is analyzed we can source and acquire the correct chemical and equipment requirement for the specific job, perform the cleaning to the highest standard and then neutralize the liquid so that it can be disposed of in the correct way dependant on state laws and standards.

Bolt Tightening

Bolt Tightening

We perform bolt tightening with hydraulic torque tools and bolt tensioning with the latest equipment and fully skilled and trained personnel. We offer every possible client requirement from basic torque and tension checking of pre-bolted systems to full installation and bolting of client systems complete with multistage tagging and flange management software for complete traceability and peace of mind.

Pipe Freezing

Pipe Freezing

We perform pipe freezing by controlling liquid nitrogen through a jacket set around an agreed section of pipe to safely freeze stationary liquids in the section of a pipe that forms an ice plug. We can then perform a liquid leak test to prove the plug set so that remedial work to make repairs can be carried out. This saves time and money to repair or replace non-functioning valves without having to drain an entire system or shutdown a plant to enable the same repair or replacement.

Vapor Phase Cleaning

Vapor Phase Cleaning

Our Vapor phase cleaning uses a saturated steam supply and specific cleaning agents to perform an efficient cleaning cycle. This process can be done on most hydrocarbon systems to remove light deposits such as: hydrocarbon (LELs, Benzene), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), pyrophoric iron (FeS), ammonia (NH3), and mercaptans. For heavier deposits such as bitumen, asphalt, and wax, our chemical cleaning service line coupled with Vapor Phase Cleaning is proven effective.

FAQs

What does a Hydrostatic Test Test for?

A hydrostatic pressure test is used to establish the pressure-containing capabilities of a pipe during pipeline commissioning. It is also used to check for leaks and determine the overall integrity and strength of pipelines during re-commissioning.

How is a Hydrostatic Test Performed?
  • In hydrostatic pressure testing, the pipeline is pressurized by a hydrostatic test pump, and the hydrostatic tester/operator measures the pressure to ensure that it remains stable. The pressure is maintained for a predetermined amount of time, and then the pressure is slowly released and the pipeline is visually inspected for any signs of leakage or damage.
How Often is Hydrostatic Testing Done?

Pipeline hydrostatic testing is done on a periodic basis, depending on the type of equipment and the applicable regulations. Generally, hydrostatic tests are done every three to five years, but it can be done more or less often depending on the specific application and/or regulations. If you are located in the greater Pittsburgh area and looking for hydrostatic testing near you, contact Hydrotech Testing today for all of our pipeline testing needs.

What is the Difference Between a Leak Test and a Hydrostatic Test?

A leak test is a test performed to detect any leaks in a system, while the hydrostatic test procedure is performed to determine the strength and integrity of a system by subjecting it to a controlled pressure.
